Threads of Empowerment –Launch of Samoon Foundation’s 10th Sewing & Knitting Center in Rudraprayag

 Date – Sunday, 12 May 2024

For over 14 years, the Samoon Foundation has stood as a steadfast advocate forwomen’s empowerment in Uttarakhand. This enduring commitment took a vibrant

leap forward on May 21,2024, with the inauguration of the 10th Free Sewing and Knitting

Training Center (SSDC10) in Agastyamuni, Rudraprayag. More than just a facility, SSDC1 0

represents a sanctuary of opportunity— designed to equip rural women with essential

skills in sewing and knitting, paving the way for economic independence and self- reliance.

The event was not only a celebration of a new center but also a recognition of female

changemakers through the prestigious Samoon Samman Awards. Among the honorees, Dr.

Geeta Nautiyal was awarded the Education Excellence Award for her unwavering

commitment to teaching. Kamla Dewasali received the Entrepreneur Excellence Award for

her innovative work in dairy farming. The Community Development Award was jointly

conferred on Kamla Negi and Nageshwari Devi, whose sewing centers have created

meaningful local employment. Madhuri Negi, a driving force behind the Veerangna

Women Organization, was honored with the Nari Shakti Award for her exemplary

leadership. These recognitions served as powerful symbols of what women can

achieve when given the right platform and support.

The inauguration, graced by Dr. Geeta Nautiyal as the Chief Guest and attended by key

community leaders and Samoon Foundation members, reflected a collective

commitment to grassroots development. The presence of social activists and

enthusiastic local women further underscored the urgency and relevance of skill-

building initiatives like SSDC10. As a growing network of empowerment hubs, this new

center reinforces the Foundation’s mission: to build a prosperous Uttarakhand, one skilled

and confident woman at a time.
