*Part 1: Beena Devi’s Story of Courage*  

After the 2013 Uttarakhand disaster, Pan Singh ji of Dhatula village, Kumaon Mandal, lost his life. His wife Beena Devi and two children, Piyush and Ayush, were left helpless and were struggling to survive.  

Beena Devi did not want to depend on anyone. With great courage, she started a small tea and biscuit shop near Simli, Karnaprayag, to support her family. But due to financial problems she could only sell 15-20 teas a day and could not expand the shop.  

With the support of Samoon Foundation, we helped Beena Devi stock her shop with more items. Today, through that small shop and tea-stall, she is able to provide for her family and live with dignity.  

*Part 2: “Humanity is My Religion”*  

On another day in Rishikesh, our team member saw a man in tattered clothes sitting on the roadside. He had no home and had been living on the streets for 1-2 years.  

We took him to get his hair and beard cut, bought him new clothes, and helped him bathe. After that he looked completely changed. He had no ID, so we could not get him government help, but we gave him some money and food to support him.  

There are many such people around us who just need a little support. Serving humanity is the biggest religion.

*समून फाउंडेशन: जरूरतमंदों के लिए मदद के हाथ*

*भाग 1: बीना देवी की हिम्मत की कहानी*  

2013 की उत्तराखंड आपदा में कुमाऊँ मंडल के धातुला गाँव के पान सिंह जी का निधन हो गया। उनकी पत्नी बीना देवी और दो बच्चे पीयूष और आयुष बेसहारा हो गए और बहुत मुश्किल से जीवन बिता रहे थे।  

बीना देवी ने किसी पर निर्भर न रहकर खुद कुछ करने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने कर्णप्रयाग के पास सिमली में एक छोटी चाय-बिस्कुट की दुकान शुरू की। लेकिन पैसे की कमी के कारण दिन में सिर्फ 15-20 चाय ही बिक पाती थीं।  

समून फाउंडेशन के सहयोग से हमने बीना देवी की दुकान में और सामान भरवाया। आज उस छोटी दुकान और स्टॉल के माध्यम से वह अपने परिवार का भरण-पोषण कर रही हैं और सम्मान से जीवन जी रही हैं।  

*भाग 2: “मानवता ही मेरा धर्म है”*  

एक दिन ऋषिकेश में हमारी टीम के सदस्य ने सड़क किनारे फटे कपड़ों में एक व्यक्ति को बैठे देखा। उसका कोई घर नहीं था और वह 1-2 साल से सड़क पर रह रहा था।  

हम उसे नाई के पास ले गए, नए कपड़े दिलवाए और नहलाया। इसके बाद वह बिल्कुल बदल गया। उसके पास पहचान पत्र नहीं था इसलिए सरकारी मदद नहीं दिलवा सके, लेकिन हमने उसे खाना और कुछ पैसे देकर मदद की।  

हमारे आसपास ऐसे बहुत लोग हैं जिन्हें थोड़ी सी मदद की जरूरत है। मानवता की सेवा ही सबसे बड़ा धर्म है।  

मानवता की सेवा में समर्पित समून परिवार के सभी सदस्यों और सहयोगियों का धन्यवाद। आप सभी के सहयोग से ही यह संभव हो पाया है।

                             *“Humanity is My Religion” – A Story of Compassion*  

I had gone out for some work. On the way, I saw a man whose condition was very bad. He was sitting on the roadside in tattered clothes. When I saw him, I felt very sad. I went near him and asked, "Uncle, why are you sitting here? Have you eaten anything?" He didn’t answer. He just looked at me. I felt even worse seeing him like that.  
I felt pity for him and thought I should help him. I took him to a nearby shop and got his hair and beard cut. Then I took him to a general store and bought him new clothes. While I was buying clothes, he kept saying that he wanted to take a bath. But the shopkeeper refused to let him bathe there. I explained that he was a human being too, but the shopkeeper didn’t agree.  
Then I took him to a public toilet where he took a bath. After the bath, he looked completely changed. He was wearing new clothes and looked much better. I asked him where his home was. He said he had no home and no one. He had been living on the streets for 1-2 years. People would beat him and he had wounds on his body.  
I asked him if he had any identity proof. He said he didn’t. I thought if I could get him an ID card, he could get government help. I tried but couldn’t succeed. Then I gave him 400-500 rupees for his expenses and told him to take care of himself. I was happy that I was able to do at least this much for him.  
In the end, I just want to say that there are many such people around us who need help. If we make a small effort, we can bring a big change in their lives. Because serving humanity is the biggest religion.

                                      *“मानवता ही मेरा धर्म है” – करुणा की एक कहानी*  
 
मैं तो अपने काम से निकला था। रास्ते में एक बंदे की जूते पर जूते पैर रखा। वह सामने आया और जूते की टोली के सामने खड़ा हो गया। मैंने पूछा “जूते पॉलिश?” उसने गर्दन हिलाकर कहा “हाँ”। मैंने जूते पॉलिश करवाए और 20 रुपये दिए। वह बहुत खुश हुआ और बोला “साहब बहुत शुक्रिया”।  
मैंने उसे अपनी स्कूटी में बिठाया और नहीं पास ले गया। एक जगह पर मैंने उससे कहा “चलिए पहले बाल और दाढ़ी कटवाते हैं”। वह मान गया। मैंने उसे नाई की दुकान पर ले जाकर बाल कटवाए और दाढ़ी बनवाई। फिर उसे कपड़े दिलवाने के लिए एक दुकान में ले गया। कपड़े लेते समय वह बोला “साहब नहाना है”। दुकानदार ने मना कर दिया। मैंने कहा “यह भी इंसान है” लेकिन उसने नहीं माना।  
फिर मैं उसे सार्वजनिक शौचालय ले गया। वहां उसने नहाया। नहाने के बाद वह बिल्कुल बदल गया था। नए कपड़े पहनकर वह अच्छा लग रहा था। मैंने पूछा “घर कहां है?” उसने बताया कि उसका कोई घर नहीं है। वह 1-2 साल से सड़क पर रह रहा है। लोग उसे मारते हैं और उसके शरीर पर चोट के निशान थे।  
मैंने उससे पूछा कि क्या उसके पास कोई आईडी है। उसने कहा नहीं। मैंने सोचा अगर उसका आईडी बन जाए तो उसे सरकारी मदद मिल सकती है। लेकिन मैं सफल नहीं हो पाया। फिर मैंने उसे 400-500 रुपये दिए और कहा “अपना ख्याल रखना”। मुझे खुशी हुई कि मैं उसके लिए कुछ कर सका।  
अंत में मैं यही कहना चाहता हूं कि हमारे आसपास ऐसे बहुत से लोग हैं जिन्हें मदद की जरूरत है। अगर हम थोड़ा प्रयास करें तो हम किसी की जिंदगी बदल सकते हैं। क्योंकि मानवता की सेवा ही सबसे बड़ा धर्म है।

Help extended to a homless man in Rishikesh (मानव सेवा ही सबसे बड़ा धर्म है)

                                  *Help Extended to a Homeless Man in Rishikesh*  

  *Location: Dalanwala, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand*  

It was around 10 AM on a day in Rishikesh, with scorching heat in Dalanwala. Samoon Team member Mr. Manoj Nautiyal was going to Bhadar Bazaar by auto when he suddenly saw a man on the road. The man had no clothes on his body and was lying in the middle of the road.  

When Manoj Nautiyal ji returned home at 2 PM, he immediately called Vinod Jethuri ji and told him about the person. He requested that we help him in some way. We took some old clothes from home and went to the place where we had seen him in the morning.  

When we reached there, we saw that he was still lying in the middle of the road. Vehicles were passing by and some people were stopping their vehicles on the side to look at him. He was physically and mentally unwell. We immediately took him to the side of the road, made him wear clothes, and then gave him water and juice.  

We observed that people would give him money and leave. He would throw it away and the money would fly off with the wind. Because he didn’t even understand how to keep the money. In reality, what he needed was not money but clothes and food. Some people even stopped us from giving him money, but people kept giving it anyway. Everyone wants to help the needy, but very few think about what that person actually needs. Most people just give money and leave, wanting to feel good about themselves. From 10 AM in the morning till 2 PM, that person was lying on the road, dragging himself on the asphalt in the heat. His hands and feet were already injured.  

We decided to help this person in every possible way. First, we took him to the nearby government hospital, then to the police station, and then to the shelter home. But no one helped us there. Now we wanted to get him admitted to a government hospital, but they refused to admit mentally ill patients. Then someone told us there was a mental hospital near Silkwai, ahead of Dehradun. We tried to contact them online to find out the admission process, but we couldn’t get through.  

It was getting late at night, so we took him to a nearby shop, bought clothes for him, and after feeding him, we went home thinking we would take him to Dehradun when the office opened in the morning. But when we went there in the morning, he was not there.  

If anyone has information about a mental hospital near Dehradun or anywhere in Uttarakhand, and knows the process to get mentally ill patients admitted there, please share it with us. Maybe we can help someone else with it.

                                           *ऋषिकेश में एक बेसहारा व्यक्ति की सहायता*  

  *स्थान: डालावाला, ऋषिकेश, उत्तराखंड*  

ऋषिकेश में डालावाला के समीप तपती धूप में दिन के 10 बज रहे थे। समून टीम सदस्य Mr. Manoj Nautiyal ऑटो में भद्रकाली बाजार के लिए जा रहे थे कि रास्ते में उन्हें अचानक एक आदमी दिखा जिसके शरीर पर एक भी वस्त्र नहीं था और वह बीच सड़क में लेटा हुआ था।  

मनोज नौटियाल जी जब 2 बजे घर वापस पहुंचे तो उन्होंने मुझे Vinod Jethuri को फोन किया और इस व्यक्ति के बारे में बताया और किसी भी तरह से उसकी सहायता करने को कहा। हमने घर से कुछ पुराने कपड़े लिए और वहां पहुंचे जहां पर वह उसे सुबह के वक्त देखे थे।  

जैसे ही हम वहां पहुंचे तो देखा कि वह बीच सड़क में लेट रखा था। गाड़ियां किनारे से जा रही थी और कुछ लोग उसे देखने के लिए सड़क से किनारे कर रहे थे ताकि वह गाड़ी के नीचे न आए। वह शारीरिक एवं मानसिक रूप से अस्वस्थ था। हम उसी वक्त उसे सड़क के किनारे ले गए एवं कपड़े पहनाये और फिर पीने के लिए पानी और जूस दिया।  

हमने देखा कि लोग उसे पैसे देते और चले जाते जिसे वह वहीं छोड़ देता और पैसे हवा में उड़ जाते। क्योंकि उसे पैसों को संभालने तक की समझ नहीं थी। वास्तव में उसे पैसे की नहीं कपड़ों और खाने की जरूरत थी। कुछ लोगों को हमने पैसे देने के लिए मना भी किया लेकिन लोग फिर भी दिए जा रहे थे। हर कोई जरूरतमंद की मदद करना चाहता है लेकिन यह बहुत कम लोग सोचते हैं कि उस व्यक्ति को वास्तव में किस चीज की आवश्यकता है। बस पैसे देते और चले जाते हैं। अधिकतर लोग बिना परिश्रम के पैसों से ही अब पुण्य अर्जित करना चाहते हैं। सुबह से दिन के 2 बजे तक वह व्यक्ति सड़क पर लोटा रहा था कि कितने ने उसे एक कपड़ा पहनने की हिम्मत नहीं की। उसके हाथ बहुत जख्म चुके थे क्योंकि वह हाथ के बल सड़क पर घिसटते हुए जा रहा था।  

हमने निर्णय किया कि इस व्यक्ति को हर संभव मदद करेंगे। हम नजदीकी पुलिस कार्यालय (सी ओ) ऑफिस गए और उन्हें हेल्प के लिए कहा, तत्काल उन्होंने 2 पुलिसकर्मियों दे दिया। अब हम सबसे पहले उसे सरकारी अस्पताल में भर्ती करवाना चाहते थे लेकिन पता चला कि मानसिक रोगियों को सरकारी हॉस्पिटल वाले भर्ती नहीं करते। फिर किसी ने कहा कि देहरादून से आगे सिलकुई के पास मानसिक रोगियों के लिए हॉस्पिटल बना हुआ है। आप वहां ले जाओ लेकिन वो लोग ऐसे एडमिट नहीं करेंगे। यह आपको पूछना पड़ेगा। हमने इंटरनेट के माध्यम से इस हॉस्पिटल के बारे में जानकारी हासिल करने की कोशिश की लेकिन हमें कोई भी सकारात्मक परिणाम नहीं मिले।  

अब रात काफी हो चुकी थी। हमने नजदीक के दुकानदार से रात को उसे देखने के लिए कहा और उसे खाना खिलाने के बाद अपने घर चले गए। यह सोचकर कि सुबह रात खुलते ही उसे देहरादून ले जायेंगे लेकिन जब सुबह वहां पहुंचे तो वह वहां नहीं मिला।  

कृपया अगर किसी को देहरादून के पास सिलकुई में या उत्तराखंड में कहीं भी मेंटल हॉस्पिटल के बारे में जानकारी हो और वहां पर मानसिक रोगियों को एडमिट करने की क्या प्रक्रिया है मालूम हो तो साझा करें क्योंकि शायद हम किसी और की हेल्प कर सकें।

As part of our social and mankind activities, Samoon Foundation was working on various initiatives to support humanity in rural areas of Uttarakhand. One of the important activities was supporting underprivileged students in rural hilly areas of Uttarakhand by providing annual scholarships.  

We had received a list of more than 100 students who applied for the scholarship, and out of these, 41 students were selected in the first batch for support.  

You could help a child escape from the bonds of poverty through our sponsor program. Child sponsorship connected you with a child in need and let you provide life-changing benefits to that child for a low monthly and yearly contribution. Your sponsorship ensured that poverty didn’t stand in the way of a child’s education.  

When you sponsored a child, you were connected with one child who needed help and support to empower her/his life to change. You could directly call the family on the given mobile number to know the results of the child, or ask Samoon Foundation to provide the same.

सामाजिक एवं मानवता के कार्यों के अंतर्गत समून फाउंडेशन उत्तराखंड के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में मानवता की सहायता के लिए विभिन्न गतिविधियाँ कर रहा था। इनमें से एक महत्वपूर्ण गतिविधि उत्तराखंड के ग्रामीण पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों के वंचित छात्रों को वार्षिक छात्रवृत्ति प्रदान करके सहायता करना था।  

हमें छात्रवृत्ति के लिए 100 से अधिक छात्रों के आवेदन प्राप्त हुए थे, जिनमें से 41 छात्रों का चयन पहले बैच के लिए किया गया था।  

आप हमारे प्रायोजन कार्यक्रम के माध्यम से एक बच्चे को गरीबी के बंधनों से मुक्त होने में मदद कर सकते थे। बाल प्रायोजन आपको एक जरूरतमंद बच्चे से जोड़ता था और आपको कम मासिक एवं वार्षिक योगदान पर उस बच्चे को जीवन बदलने वाले लाभ प्रदान करने का अवसर देता था। आपका प्रायोजन यह सुनिश्चित करता था कि गरीबी बच्चे की शिक्षा के आड़े न आए।

Midnight blanket distribution for roadside needy people(आधी रात में सड़क किनारे जरूरतमंदों को कम्बल वितरण)

*Date: 29 December, 2016 | Time: 12:00 AM – 3:00 AM*  

*Location: Rishikesh, Uttarakhand*  

As a part of social & mankind activities, on 29/12/2016 at midnight from 12 AM to 3 AM, the team members of Samoon Foundation distributed blankets to the poor & helpless people sleeping on roadsides under the open sky in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.  

Every year during the season of shivering cold in the months of December & January, the volunteers of Samoon Foundation along with some local residents visit in search of needy people sleeping under the open sky on the coldest night and donate them warm clothes and blankets.  

The areas covered by the team were Triveni Ghat, Muni Ki Reti, Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Railway Station & Bus Station etc. The team found many needy people who were staying under the open sky in this shivering cold weather, even though they didn’t have enough clothes to cover their body. Team Samoon distributed blankets & warm clothes to such people. The team of volunteers also distributed blankets to the poor people and kids residing in slums.  

Every year we organise such activities with the help of our donors who donate to us for this noble cause which directly reach needy persons through us.

                                            *आधी रात में सड़क किनारे जरूरतमंदों को कम्बल वितरण*  

*दिनांक: 29 दिसम्बर, 2016 | समय: रात्रि 12:00 बजे – 3:00 बजे*  

*स्थान: ऋषिकेश, उत्तराखंड*  

सामाजिक एवं मानवता के कार्यों के अंतर्गत दिनांक 29/12/2016 को आधी रात 12 बजे से 3 बजे तक समून फाउंडेशन की टीम ने ऋषिकेश, उत्तराखंड में खुले आसमान के नीचे सड़कों के किनारे सो रहे गरीब एवं बेसहारा लोगों को कम्बल वितरित किए।  

हर साल दिसम्बर और जनवरी के कड़ाके की ठंड के मौसम में समून फाउंडेशन के स्वयंसेवक कुछ स्थानीय निवासियों के साथ सबसे ठंडी रात को खुले आसमान के नीचे सो रहे जरूरतमंद लोगों की तलाश में जाते हैं और उन्हें गर्म कपड़े और कम्बल दान करते हैं।  

टीम द्वारा कवर किए गए क्षेत्र थे त्रिवेणी घाट, मुनि की रेती, लक्ष्मण झूला, राम झूला, रेलवे स्टेशन एवं बस स्टेशन आदि। टीम को इस कड़कड़ाती ठंड में खुले आसमान के नीचे रहने वाले कई जरूरतमंद लोग मिले, जिनके पास शरीर ढकने के लिए पर्याप्त कपड़े भी नहीं थे। टीम समून ने ऐसे लोगों को कम्बल एवं गर्म कपड़े वितरित किए। स्वयंसेवकों की टीम ने झुग्गियों में रहने वाले गरीब लोगों और बच्चों को भी कम्बल बाँटे।  

हम हर साल ऐसे कार्य अपने दानदाताओं की मदद से आयोजित करते हैं, जो इस नेक काम के लिए हमें दान देते हैं और जो सीधे जरूरतमंद व्यक्तियों तक पहुँचता है।  

समून फाउंडेशन के टीम सदस्य श्री कमल जोशी जी एवं श्री नरेन्द्र मैठाणी जी का विशेष धन्यवाद, जिन्होंने आधी रात को जरूरतमंदों को कम्बल वितरित किए।  

साथ ही नए कम्बल खरीदने के लिए ₹18,000/- के दान हेतु श्री लक्ष्मण रावत जी का भी धन्यवाद।

"Woollens collection & distribution to needy"campaign- collaboration with goonj foundation(“जरूरतमंदों के लिए ऊनी वस्त्र संग्रह एवं वितरण” अभियान – गूंज फाउंडेशन के साथ सहयोग*)

*“Woollens Collection & Distribution to Needy” Campaign – Collaboration with Goonj Foundation*

*Location: Rishikesh, Dehradun & Haridwar, Uttarakhand*  

Samoon Foundation launched the “Woollens Collection and Distribution to Needy” campaign on 15 October 2016 across different cities of Uttarakhand. Many kind-hearted people from Rishikesh, Dehradun, and Haridwar came forward and donated used clothes to us.  
We selected clothes that were in good condition, recycled them, and distributed them to needy people in Rishikesh on 17th December, 2016. After distribution, we still had more than 19 bags of used clothes available, which we donated to “Goonj Foundation” in Rishikesh. We also donated a cheque of INR 2100/- to Goonj Foundation.  
Goonj Foundation is one of the top NGOs in India that annually deals with over 3000 tons of materials. They recycle the clothes and make new items from them.  
Thanks to Mr. Kamal Joshi, Team Member & Area Coordinator of Samoon Foundation in Rishikesh, who took responsibility to deliver all the clothes to the office of Goonj Foundation.

              *“जरूरतमंदों के लिए ऊनी वस्त्र संग्रह एवं वितरण” अभियान – गूंज फाउंडेशन के साथ सहयोग*

*स्थान: ऋषिकेश, देहरादून व हरिद्वार, उत्तराखंड*  

समून फाउंडेशन ने 15 अक्टूबर 2016 से उत्तराखंड के विभिन्न शहरों में “जरूरतमंदों के लिए ऊनी वस्त्र संग्रह एवं वितरण” अभियान शुरू किया। ऋषिकेश, देहरादून और हरिद्वार से कई नेकदिल लोगों ने आगे आकर हमें पुराने कपड़े दान किए।  
हमने अच्छी स्थिति वाले कपड़ों को चुना, उन्हें रीसाइकिल किया और 17 दिसम्बर, 2016 को ऋषिकेश में जरूरतमंद लोगों को वितरित किया। वितरण के बाद भी हमारे पास 19 बैग से अधिक पुराने कपड़े उपलब्ध थे, जिन्हें हमने ऋषिकेश में “गूंज फाउंडेशन” को दान कर दिया। साथ ही गूंज फाउंडेशन को INR 2100/- का चेक भी दान किया।  
गूंज फाउंडेशन भारत के शीर्ष एनजीओ में से एक है जो सालाना 3000 टन से अधिक सामग्री का प्रबंधन करता है। वे कपड़ों को रीसाइकिल करके उनसे नई वस्तुएँ बनाते हैं।  
ऋषिकेश में समून फाउंडेशन के टीम सदस्य एवं एरिया कोऑर्डिनेटर श्री कमल जोशी का धन्यवाद, जिन्होंने गूंज फाउंडेशन के कार्यालय तक सभी कपड़े पहुँचाने की जिम्मेदारी ली।
