On April 7, 2025, the Samoon Foundation marked a significant milestone by inaugurating its 12th Samoon Skill Development Centre (SSDC) in the remote village of Banjbagad, located within the Nanda Nagar block of Chamoli district. The primary mission behind establishing this center was to empower rural women by providing them with sustainable livelihood skills, inspiring them to march toward complete self-reliance.
Prior to the center's opening, women in far-flung pockets like Banjbagad faced immense hardships, often traveling over 5 kilometers to the nearest commercial market just for basic tailoring and stitching needs. This caused a heavy waste of time, money, and physical labor. Because they were constantly balancing rigorous daily routines between household chores and agricultural fields, learning a new vocational skill had always been an uphill battle for them.
The spark for this center came from Mr. Lakshman Rawat, a resilient differently-abled villager who has been successfully running a local general store and flour mill established with the direct support of the Samoon Foundation. Having attained economic independence himself, Mr. Rawat earnestly requested the foundation to set up a skill center to uplift the women of his community. Stepping up to the cause, Mrs. Darshani Devi, the President of the Mahila Mangal Dal, played a monumental role in turning that request into reality by mobilizing, uniting, and motivating the village women. Thanks to her grassroots leadership, more than 25 women initially signed up for the training program.
The instructional responsibilities of the center were entrusted to Mrs. Gudiya Devi, an expert artisan in tailoring and knitting who carried prior vocational teaching experience in the region. The grand opening was graced by prominent local women, including Mrs. Parvati Devi, Mrs. Savitri Devi, Mrs. Sangeeta Devi, Mrs. Maheshwari Devi, and Mrs. Seema Devi, all of whom warmly welcomed the initiative and shared their personal aspirations.
Prior to this launch, the Samoon Foundation had successfully operationalized 11 other Skill Development Centres across diverse terrains of Uttarakhand, enabling thousands of women to acquire professional tailoring skills. The Samoon Foundation remains permanently committed to generating sustainable development and self-employment avenues for rural youth and women. The launch of SSDC 12 stands as a powerful stride in this direction—one that not only imparts practical expertise but also continues to fortify the socio-economic fabric of the entire village.

07 अप्रैल, 2025 को समूण फाउंडेशन ने महिला सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में एक और बड़ा कदम बढ़ाते हुए उत्तराखंड के जनपद चमोली के सुदूरवर्ती ग्राम बांजबगड़ (नंदा नगर) में अपने 12वें 'समूण स्किल डेवलपमेंट सेंटर' (SSDC 12) का विधिवत उद्घाटन किया। इस केंद्र की स्थापना का मुख्य उद्देश्य ग्रामीण महिलाओं को हुनरमंद बनाकर उन्हें स्वावलंबन और आत्मनिर्भरता की राह पर अग्रसर करना रहा है। भौगोलिक रूप से दुर्गम होने के कारण, इस केंद्र के खुलने से पहले बांजबगड़ की महिलाओं को सामान्य सिलाई-बुनाई के कार्यों के लिए भी लगभग 5 किलोमीटर दूर मुख्य बाजार जाना पड़ता था, जिससे उनके समय, धन और अत्यधिक श्रम की बर्बादी होती थी। अमूमन घर और खेतों के कड़े कामकाज में व्यस्त रहने के कारण इन महिलाओं के लिए कोई नया कौशल सीखना हमेशा से एक बड़ी चुनौती थी।
इस केंद्र की शुरुआत के पीछे एक बेहद प्रेरणादायक कहानी रही है। गाँव के ही दिव्यांग श्री लक्ष्मण रावत जी, जो पिछले 5 वर्षों से समूण फाउंडेशन के सौजन्य से स्थापित एक जनरल स्टोर और आटा चक्की का सफलतापूर्वक संचालन कर आत्मनिर्भर बन चुके हैं, उन्होंने अपने गाँव की महिलाओं को सशक्त देखने की इच्छा से संस्था से यह केंद्र खोलने का विशेष अनुरोध किया था। इस मुहिम को धरातल पर उतारने में स्थानीय 'महिला मंगल दल' की अध्यक्षा श्रीमती दर्शनी देवी जी ने अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उन्होंने गाँव की महिलाओं को एकजुट कर इस कौशल को सीखने के लिए प्रेरित किया, जिसके सुखद परिणामस्वरूप शुरुआत में ही 25 से अधिक महिलाओं ने केंद्र में अपना पंजीकरण करवा लिया था।
इस केंद्र में प्रशिक्षण देने की महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी श्रीमती गुड़िया देवी जी को सौंपी गई थी, जो सिलाई एवं बुनाई कला में पूरी तरह दक्ष हैं और पूर्व में भी इस क्षेत्र में अपनी सेवाएं दे चुकी थीं। उद्घाटन के इस शुभ अवसर पर पार्वती देवी, सावित्री देवी, संगीता देवी, महेश्वरी देवी, सीमा देवी सहित गाँव की कई अन्य महिलाएं प्रमुख रूप से उपस्थित रहीं, जिन्होंने इस पहल का भरपूर स्वागत किया था और अपने विचार साझा किए थे।
गौरतलब है कि इस केंद्र से पूर्व भी समूण फाउंडेशन उत्तराखंड के विभिन्न जनपदों में 11 स्किल डेवलपमेंट सेंटर्स का सफलतापूर्वक संचालन कर चुका था, जहाँ हजारों ग्रामीण महिलाओं ने सिलाई-कढ़ाई का हुनर सीखकर अपनी आजीविका को मजबूत किया है। समूण फाउंडेशन ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में युवाओं और मातृशक्ति के लिए आत्मनिर्भरता और सतत विकास की दिशा में निरंतर कार्यरत है। SSDC 12 का शुभारंभ इसी पावन संकल्प की एक मजबूत कड़ी साबित हुआ है, जिसने न केवल महिलाओं को आत्मनिर्भर बनाया है बल्कि गाँव की सामाजिक व आर्थिक स्थिति को भी एक नई मजबूती प्रदान की है। यह केंद्र आज ग्रामीण बदलाव और महिला सशक्तिकरण का एक अनूठा प्रतीक बनकर उभर रहा है।
